Governor Announces
Government Reform Initiatives for 2012 Legislative Session his week Governor Bob
McDonnell announced his government reform initiatives that are contained in a
Government Reorganization Plan submitted to the General Assembly. The
proposals are a result of the ongoing work of the Governor's Commission on
Government Reform and Restructuring.
The proposals include eliminating two state agencies; merging seven
state agencies into others; eliminating 19 boards and commissions; merging 23
boards and commissions to form 11 boards and commissions; moving four offices
and initiatives; and, de-regulating three professions. More… |

RLPS Architects joins VANHA VANHA
would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest business member, RLPS Architects (Reese, Lower, Patrick
& Scott). RLPS provides CCRC planning and design services, repositioning of
existing retirement communities, and all levels of senior housing and care
facility design. Started in 1954 to design and construct parish churches, RLPS was subsequently asked to design
retirement housing for the aging parishioners, and as a result, has been
designing retirement housing communities for more than 50 years. For more

Woods VANHA
joins Brandermill Woods in welcoming Cynthia Ritter as the community’s new
Administrator at the Health Care Center and Chesterfield Assisted Living.
Prior to joining the Brandermill Woods team, Cynthia was employed by
Golden Living Center at a 177-bed for-profit facility in Fredericksburg. New Administrator at Marian Manor VANHA also
joins Marian Manor in welcoming Karen Land as their new
Administrator. With a background in Recreation Therapy, Karen brings more
than 30 years of experience in the long term care continuum. Since 1989, she
has been as an Administrator in independent living, assisted living, and CCRC
communities. Riverside Convalescent Centers Win Awards Congratulations to three Riverside Convalescent Centers
for recently receiving awards. Riverside Convalescent Centers in
Mathews and West Point received My InnerView’s
Excellence in Action award, a national honor recognizing the facilities’
commitment to superior customer satisfaction.
Riverside Convalescent Center
in Smithfield received second place honors in the 2011 D. A. “Woody” Brown
Community Involvement Award in the Year Round Program category, presented by
the Virginia Health Care Association and the Virginia Center for Assisted
Living. Atlantic Shores Announces the “Puppy Love” Program The Atlantic Shores/Guiding Eyes for the Blind “Puppy Love” program
is one of the first in the nation to link the generations together in a partnership
that will ultimately provide visually impaired individuals with guide dogs
that will dramatically change their lives.
As reported here last month, two puppies from Guiding Eyes for the
Blind have come to live at Atlantic
Shores in Virginia Beach, to be raised by residents and embraced by the
entire community and two local elementary schools. Those interested in
sharing in the Puppy Love adventure can follow the progress of these tiny
